Jill Ehlert is a mixed-media artist with a studio practice in Cobble Hill, BC, whose
practice focuses on merging art and science within a contemporary approach. Research, observation drawing and documentation form the basis of her practice. Jill has a desire not only to understand something at its deepest level but also to understand it viscerally and experientially. The natural world, organic and cellular forms inspire her layered drawings, collages and paintings. Jill is interested in "bisociation" - the idea of connecting unrelated elements, discovering similar patterns between objects and their relationship to each other. The naturalists Charles Darwin, Ernst Haeckel and the social scientist Gregory Bateson are an inspiration to her recent explorations. Jill graduated with honours from the Victoria College of Art, 1992 and the Ottawa School of Art, 1988. Jill teaches at the Vancouver Island School of Art in Victoria, BC.
